We are very pleased with the attendance and enthusiasm of the participants in our group discussions. Our teaching procedure has been to take a problem someone is experiencing and use that question to expand and solve the problem; then we all learn. Remember, there is no stupid question!
Tips and Scam Alert!
by Lloyd Groves
Time seems to evaporate, and we never get around to all the things we need to do or want to do.
There are some tips I want you to know and some that you should do:
- We all have security on our phones and computers, or at least you should. If you have a log-in on your computer and phone, you need to have a family member who knows where that log-in information is so that, in the event that you have a problem, someone can access your computer and phone. You can go to the Dollar Store and purchase an “Address and Telephone Book” that is alphabetized and put that information in there. You can also keep other log-in information in there alphabetically. I use mine often because with all the websites, shopping, banking, etc., it is next to impossible to remember the log-in information for each site.
- The “Clean Me! Clean Me!” article from last month is very important to your computer. At least monthly you should clean, de-frag, and do Disk Cleanup.
- You should reboot your phone daily. That means turn it off and turn it on so it updates. Most phone carriers update automatically; however, rebooting resets your phone and it will work better even though you may not notice it.
Today we are bombarded with emails, texts, and phone calls. Please be careful what you answer and especially never ever give out any personal information. The bad guys are getting better and better at deceiving people. Last year alone in the United States, literally billions of dollars were defrauded from fellow Americans. Please be careful. Have a friend or family member that you can consult with before you do anything. If someone contacts you by any method, simply ask them to put it in writing and you will review it. If they insist to “Do it now!” scam-alert bells are ringing loud and clear.
I just received this email and want to share it with you:

This is bogus and a scam to get your personal information—delete immediately!
I know you can’t see the actual email, but it looked authentic. It could easily fool many people into giving out personal information.
To my fellow Banyanites, my goal is to help you with your electronic devices so that you can enjoy them and be safe and secure.
